Featured Blogger - Case Clothed

Photobucket

Name: Heather Case

Age: 32

Location: Belleville, Ontario

What do you do? When I'm not working I'm usually doing something creative whether it's web design or writing but my passion is sewing and clothing design. It's hard to describe the satisfaction you feel when you've made something wearable for yourself or someone else.

Job or Hobby? Right now I am working at a place called Black Walnut Teaching Gardens with this amazing woman who owns the place. It's hard work but the flowers and the other plants often remind me of pretty fabrics, have you ever seen a pink poppy? The petals are like ruffles on a dress, beautiful.

What inspires you to create? I find my inspiration to create in many different places. Sometimes it's in other pieces of clothing that I see but I think it is mostly in vintage fashions. Right now I am really into reusing or "upcycling" vintage fashions and fabrics. Famous last words: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think it can be really nerve wracking to stand behind your work, but if you think it is beautiful other people will too.

Make sure you check her out her Etsy Case Clothed and her blog!
She also does custom work and alterations and can be seen through her facebook page!

We have a winner!

Our Common Threads giveaway winner for the custom fabric bunting is #22 jengd, she said - "Great looking! I'd love to have this for my son's bday and then in his room!"

Jessi did a random number generator this morning to select the winner, I just don't have a screenshot of it! But we will next time, so anyways congratulations to the winner and I will be in touch with you soon! And don't forget to check back with us for our monthly giveaways!

I never went to sleep away camp when I was a kid,
but super cute stuff like this makes me wish I had!!

(I know...not a real camp :P)

Also, was anyone aware how absolutley IMPOSSIBLE it is to find a picture of an ugly handmade ashtray on the internet? I am an expert Googler, and no where to be found!

Petal Pouch

A rough up of an idea I had the other day....turned out pretty cute! I sewed together the little cicular pouch and then sewed the petals on by hand...but left all the edges rough....time to make a good copy???

Our house - only better!

We moved into this house of ours last summer after realising we needed more space for baby #2, such as a basement and another bedroom! It is a bigger house in a nicer neighbourhood but definitely has some very "dated" elements, like the bathroom tiling (brown and white checkerboard. ick!) and the paint choices. I have mentioned them here before...

So we finally got around to painting and I love the new green! These are a few in-progress pictures, it is all finished now and the colour was a bit of a debate but I am so happy we decided to go this dark!

We went with more of a neutral in the kitchen, painted out the wood on the cupboards and a few other little touches including this plate wall that I adore and can't stop looking at right now!

I saw the inspiration for this here and had to do it! Mine isn't quite as coulourful but the plates are all thrifted and it was pretty simple to do. The plate hooks were a bit of a pain because they couldn't fit the smaller saucers so Jason had to handle that area, but the hanging and positioning of them was a lot of fun! I love too that I can change the plates out and add new special ones when I come across them which means more items to be on the look out for while thrifting!

Sew What! Sew Along - Week 2 completed!

Jessi and I are both taking part in the Sew What! sew along hosted by Until Wednesday Calls and Confessions of a Sewing Dork and we have just finished up our week 2 challenge! We were to make a bag with a word (or words) on it....the possibilities were endless and here is what we both came up with!

Mandi
's bag

I decided to make a crochet hook bag since mine are always floating around the house. The fabrics are all repurposed - futon remnants and a thrifted pillowcase! I didn't have a zipper on hand so I just did a button/elastic closure.

Jessi made a little zippered pouch and her fabrics are thrifted men's buttons up shirts - since Cassie gave her a big bag of them! It is made of two shirts and the inside lining was cut around the front pocket of the shirt to make it look like it has two compartments.

The week three challenge has also been posted - it is a filled form like a pillow or doorstop. We are still using our chosen fabric plus a second fabric and it is suggested that we try our hand at reverse appliqueing! Hmmmmm...I guess I will have to figure out what that is and how I can work this project into some type of Fathers Day Gift! :)

PS - What do you think of our summery new sidebar photos? We did the photoshoot a while ago but just got around to changing them now! Hope you all had a great weekend!
