Easter Fun

With Easter coming up I have started to think about what I can make the kids this year, so they have something in addition to all of the chocolate! This is the first year that Clark has been big enough so we may do an egg hunt in the back yard with home made goodies hidden as well. I want to make these adorable eggs...I picture them a little more decorated, maybe rick rack and buttons? And there is a great tutorial too!

Here are some more Easter goodies (with instructions) to make!

Easter Egg Ornaments

We are having dinners both Friday and Saturday this weekend so we should be well fed and get to spend lots of time with family. I'll keep you posted after the weekend with pics of our Easter creations! Happy Easter everyone!

Project Runway - Textile Design

So this week our remaining designers got the chance to make their own textiles to incorporate into their creations. I think Seth Aaron was the only one who was creative with the design, Emilio I guess was next best - in terms of creativity - but I thought it looked like the rock steady cd cover. The rest look like they just drew some lines with little to no thought.

Top 3 went to Seth, Maya and Emilio. I am 100% sure Seth Aaron will be in the finals and 90% sure he's going to win. He is the only one I think so far that is guaranteed a spot in the finals. Maya's dress was ugly - it looked like a costume from a sci-fi movie - but the judges seemed to like it. Emilio did a good job I guess - but he isn't very consistent, so I am not sure he will make it to the end.

Bottom 3 we had Anthony, Jonathon and Mila. Again Mila squeaked through with an awful design, and proved how delusional she was about her talent by raving about her Crayola inspired Technicolor dream dress. That left my two favs on the chopping block - Johnathon and Anthony. I actually didn't think Jonathon's was that bad- had the jacket been a cowel or something it may have done better - but he ended up safe, and sadly this seasons fabulously outspoken gay man, Anthony, went home :(

Next weeks preview looks good! Any guess on who the difficult, opinionated celeb is going to be and what will be the shocking news???

It Was Acceptable in the 80's

My sister Shmem loves the 80's. If it pertains to that decade at all, she's seen it, read it, loves it. So when I saw these driving gloves on Lion Brand I knew she had to have them.

Turned out pretty cool and it's always nice to make something for someone you know they'll wear.

What's your favourite decade? I kinda like the 40's :) -Cassie

Simple Clutch

I love clutchs and when I saw this pattern on the Lion Brand site it looked so simple I had to try it. Crocheted up in some Patons SWS Solids (which is quickly becoming one of my favourite fibers) and lined with some pretty floral fabric, I am totally in love with it. Might add a shoulder length chain but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I think that I could modify this to change the pattern on the flap to almost anything...bobbles, mesh, shells, lace... What do you think?

Remember, if you're interested in learning how to crochet or knit, feel free to join us for Stitch n' Bitch here in Kingston! We hope to see you all tonight at our accessory party...If you're out of town (or out of country!) we promise to post pics!

Who doesn't love sock monkeys?
Pictures of how to make it would be pretty boring, and would probably take me forever since I am not very good at explaining things, so here is the tutorial I used. It took about 2 hours and I used safety eyes for the eyes instead of buttons since it was a gift for a baby.

Materials:

-pair of wool socks
-scissors
-sewing machine
-sewing needle
-pair of safety eyes or buttons
-stuffing

Vests!

I have been wanting to sew a vest lately and with my sewing time limited these days it seems like a project that I just might be able to handle.  I am hoping to get some real sewing time in after the Accessory Party this Thursday, and have some quality sewing posts for you all in the near future!

I have been seeing long vests, worn belted that I really like...Here are some others!

There are also some cropped versions that are cute!

What versions do you like?  The long or the short?  Or is it all in how you wear it?
