Back to the Howling Old Owl in the Woods

I decided to try and make a line of animal themed iPod/Phone covers, and here is my first attempt!  ( "Good Bye Yellow Brick Road" was the only song I could think of that had the word Owl in it! lol)

He's made of felt and some leftover fabric ends, and for a first try at creating my own design I think he turned out pretty cute! I have a few more animals sketched out - any suggestions of animals you would carry your music around in?

Oh and make sure to check out our newly updated shop!

Adventures in Yardsailing!

The past two Saturday's in a row we have gone yardsailing and I think we are all newly addicted! I usually enjoy myself a little thrift shopping and I know Jessi and Cassie do as well, but we are just discovering the beauty of garage sales! We are pretty organized about it too, I go online to find promising sales and we take the GPS and try to hit as many as we can. It was rainy on both occasions but we still found lots of great stuff and we even saw some adorable farm animals near a garage sale just out of town. Seeing the animals made the drive out there worth it alone!

Here are a few things that I have brought home with me the last two weekends...I know Cassie and Jessi both have some cute things that they have found that they may be posting at some point too. Last week we hit an AMAZING yardsale that had tons of sewing and craft supplies and I basically filled the basket and bought the basket too!

1 - Big bag off assorted threads 2 - Handbag pattern
3 - Linen calendar towel 4 - Vintage flowered shower curtain, still in package
5 - Fashion ruler 6 - Sewing tray 7 - Big basket 8 - Vintage zippers 9 - Pins
10 - Adorable notions

Here are a few other odds and ends that I have picked up...

Make it yourself set, volumes 1-20, just $3!

Embroidered nightie/gown, never worn. This is just begging for a restyling!

Turquoise picnic basket. I love this and am so excited to use it!

Linen calendar towel, 1981 - Canadian Birds, still in the box. It filled up some empty wall space in Caden's room nicely!

Do you all like yardsailing? Do you have any good tips you can share with us novices? Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

A Dress Fail with a happy ending!

Jason and I went to my cousins wedding this past weekend and I had full intentions of sewing up a quick and easy dress out of some really pretty fabric that I bought...but it did not go as planned! It started to go wrong basically from the very start because the fabric was hard to work with and kept pulling and could have been my needle or tension somewhere, I am not sure but it was definitely my biggest sewing disaster in recent history. I actually burnt my arm on the iron and should have know that was my first sign to stop, I just really wanted to "make it work" after investing so much time into the dress!

So I ended up going another route and altering a dress that Jessi and I both had much love for. I think she may even be a little sad that the dress is no longer! I wore it to her wedding in PEI post-baby and she wore it to our friends Matt & Emily's wedding.  Here are a few fuzzy pics of our beloved dress...

It really was a great dress! Nice fabric and details but the top was always a little too big and it was a bit too short for me. But it had great pockets and lots of life left in it so I cut off the top and added a black elastic waist band and TA-DA!!

It was a super simple alteration as the waist already had an elastic band there so I didn't need to gather it to add the black elastic and I love the pockets and tiered bottom! I am also happy that this dress has found an even longer life and may even make a few more appearances this summer! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

PS - It is a little late but thanks to Aimee at Green Pickles for including us in her 15 Friday Favourite Finds! Stop by and take a look at her super cute blog and shop!
