First Embroidery Hoop!

Next week is our Stitch N Bitch Christmas pot luck/gift exchange so I decided it was finally time to make the embroidery hoop I have kept pushing aside. After making it I was cleaning up my desk and found a number of sketches that were almost identical so I think I've had this project on the brain for awhile!!

It's Refashion time!

We are super excited to be taking part in the Birth Matters Workshop Series at Go Green Baby here in Kingston and we are presenting a few kids refashions in the store tonight!

Past Project!

Ohhhh how I missed you!

It has been quite a while since I have sewn a piece of clothing for myself, this was the last thing that I have done and that was in in July, so yes it has been way too long!  I was having the urge to whip up something easy and fallish and I have a little blue obsession happening right now...so this is what I came up with! 

 

  

It is loosely based on this burda 7428 pattern, but I had McCalls M5769 already at home which is actually sleepwear and I used the bath robe pattern!  I just made the sleeves shorter and added the cuff and pockets.

  

 It has kind of a kimono feeling and looks cuter belted, but I am mostly loving the pockets!  I am definitely into pockets but am usually too excited to wear something and don't bother with them unless I have too, but now I am going to take the time and put them in everything!

 

 The cowl is also made by me and is really soft gray stripes.  I still haven't decided if I am going to gift it, sell it at our Christmas craft show or keep it...I think probably keep on this one :)

I love Ruffles! {Simplicity 2599}

This morning I only had Caden at home so I was able to finally take some pictures of this top that I made a few weeks ago. It is Simplicity 2599 and it was a bit of a miss that turned into a success (I hope, anyways!). There where a few bumps along the way...ie: a way too big and saggy neckline, strangely placed darts and possibly a poor fabric choice. (I think it is a poly-blend and I am not sure how it will breathe in this weather..it was easy to sew but will have to wait for a cooler day for sure!)

I also didn't love the neck details they showed in the pattern so I came up with this solution to cover the baggy neckline and get my ruffle fix in. The edges are raw because I have not learned to use the serger that I have on loan from my Nanna and I kind of think it plays against the girly ruffle. I also had to wear it with a high waisted elastic skirt that I love right now!


I had great hopes for this pattern, that it would maybe be one that I would use over and over again...it is possible I suppose with a few fixes that I will have to keep in mind for next time! I will use it again and skip the darts and pick a lighter, airier fabric, although I still have yet to wear this one out of the house!


Then I changed back into this for a photo with the baby! (and this is even done up for me, a SAHM with two busy boys!) We have a date at the wade pool with friends this afternoon, hope you are all enjoying your week!

Custom Bunting with Text ~NOW AVAILABLE!~

After making this bunting for Clark's birthday and doing a custom item for our June giveaway (for Liam - pictured below) we have updated our shop with the option of ordering pennant flags with wording! I think they are adorable as outdoor summer party decorations, for weddings and are also friendly to our earth because they are reusable!

I have posted bunting inspirations before, but I love them so here are a few more! There are just too many cute ways to use them.

Hope you are all having a great week and finding ways to stay cool in this heat! Ohhh and a little Happy Birthday note to Jessi for tomorrow!! I think we are doing a patio dinner and drinks to celebrate...with the boys staying in to watch all of the kids. How lucky are we?

A Dress Fail with a happy ending!

Jason and I went to my cousins wedding this past weekend and I had full intentions of sewing up a quick and easy dress out of some really pretty fabric that I bought...but it did not go as planned! It started to go wrong basically from the very start because the fabric was hard to work with and kept pulling and gathering...it could have been my needle or tension somewhere, I am not sure but it was definitely my biggest sewing disaster in recent history. I actually burnt my arm on the iron and should have know that was my first sign to stop, I just really wanted to "make it work" after investing so much time into the dress!

So I ended up going another route and altering a dress that Jessi and I both had much love for. I think she may even be a little sad that the dress is no longer! I wore it to her wedding in PEI post-baby and she wore it to our friends Matt & Emily's wedding.  Here are a few fuzzy pics of our beloved dress...

It really was a great dress! Nice fabric and details but the top was always a little too big and it was a bit too short for me. But it had great pockets and lots of life left in it so I cut off the top and added a black elastic waist band and TA-DA!!

It was a super simple alteration as the waist already had an elastic band there so I didn't need to gather it to add the black elastic and I love the pockets and tiered bottom! I am also happy that this dress has found an even longer life and may even make a few more appearances this summer! Hope you all had a lovely weekend!

A rough up of an idea I had the other day....turned out pretty cute! I sewed together the little cicular pouch and then sewed the petals on by hand...but left all the edges rough....time to make a good copy???

Simple Summer Skirt

I whipped up this little skirt the other night from a set of thrifted curtains. I really liked the pattern when I saw it and the price was right at just a few dollars. I don't really know what the pattern would be called, tribal maybe? It was pretty simple to make, just three panels, a waistband and zipper in the back. It is really comfy although it could use some interfacing in the waistband but I didn't have any on hand. oh wellll :) It just makes me so happy for more summer sewing to come!
