S-a-n-t-a!

Hope you all had a very merry Christmas morning and Santa made it to your house with lots of goodies! We have just stayed around the house, opened presents with the two little ones and now are off to make the rounds visiting friends and family. We will be taking a little blogging break for a few days to enjoy some family time so hope your holidays are warm and happy!

Happy 1st Birthday!

My little boy Caden turned one last weekend and I am just getting around to posting the few photos that I managed to get now! We didn't do anything to over-the-top, we actually ended up opening presents in our pj's after Jason got home from work but here are a few pics of the day!

How to make a Granny Square Pincushion

I recently received a ton of yarn and fabric from a family friend (thank you Myrna!) and in one of the boxes of goodies was this cute little granny square! It is so much neater and prettier than mine usually are so I figured I should put it to good use...but as what??

I have been adoring lacey and doily pincushions lately and I realized that this square could make a pretty little pincushion. I have included a granny square pincushion in a past Friday Favourites and there is also a great little granny square tutorial here!

Here is how I made mine!

You will need:

- 1 granny square - felt - stuffing - needle and thread

1. Cut 2 squares of felt slightly larger than your granny square.
I made mine 4 inches by 4 inches.

2. Sew three sides together.

3. Flip square out so seems are on the inside.
Stuff felt square and sew last seem together so you
end up with a stuffed felt square.

4. Sew granny square to top of felt square.
And you are done!

So this is how the pincushion turned out and I am really enjoying it so far. It was a quick little project and I think that they might just make cute gifts (Christmas or anytime) for my crafty friends and family!

Christmas in September!

It is just back to school time and Halloween is still to come but I have already started to think about Christmas and handmade gifts!  Jason asked me last year if I could make us Christmas stockings since ours are all old and ratty so I decided to try this pattern for one of our stockings!  I just left off the top cuff and added the stripes.

It is a little crooked in places and the toe should probably not get any type of close inspection but I am happy for my first attempt at any kind of sock shape!  So only three more to go!!  :)

Chapeau

As much fun as I had at Birthfest, I'm really looking forward to not making kiddy themed items....maybe some Cassie themed items instead :)

I made this hat last night. It's a little slouchier than I expected, probably because I didn't exactly follow all the directions and stopped paying attention for the last 2 rows or so.  Still like it!

Also totally addicted to this right now!!! Now if only I didn't have to put all the lyrics through Google Translate ....

I've been getting ready for birthfest by making as many amigurumi animals as possible. I thought for this friday favourites I'd share some pretty cool free patterns (knit and crocheted) from the interweb :)

Hope you're feeling as inspired as I am!!!
